Monxton Village HallMonday nights:7.45pm to 9.45pmMonxton is a beautiful Hampshire village not far from Andover and just off the A303 (through the village, past the pub, first right, over stream, hall on left).
Monxton Kempo as a class has evolved from a number of styles which when analysed can best be defined as 'Kempo'. RyuKyu Kempo is perhaps the closest form to our style, but it would be wrong to ignore and acknowledgee the influences of Small Circle Jujitsu, Shaitsu and GoJo Ryu Karate. We are a non-profit making club which prides itself in being small and focused.
We welcome anyone of any age or experience so long as they have an open mind and an honest soul... Our class is usually no more than about twelve people. Which allows each student to receive individual attention. The evening begins with warm up exercises designed to stretch the various meridian lines. We then usually move on to 'sticky hands' which is a variation of simply pushing hands. It is an ideal way to learn flow and deflection techniques. The less force you use, the better it works! Lower grades then move on to practice their basic blocking, kicking and punching techniques. These exercises are based upon classic Karate techniques and are an ideal way to build up 'muscle memory'. Higher grades will practice more complex deflection and counter techniques (many using variations of JuJitsu exercises). Once again the emphasis is upon flow, deflection and accuracy. The less force used the better! Later on everyone works in a circle. Here, students practice their attacking and defending techniques. Again, the emphasis is upon deflection and flow. Some students may practice their 'Kata', a set of pre-defined moves designed to promote self-learning. Finally, time is spent examining basic Shiatsu and Chi exercises. Learning how to apply effective muscle massages and self-healing promotes self awareness and balance. After a warm down period we discuss what we have learned that evening. After bowing-out and putting the mats away, we retire to the 'Mucky Duck' for well earned refreshments!
