The Lionhearts is a programme for children developed by Dr Richard Catterick, founder of Elite Martial Arts.
The Lionhearts now have three children's clubs with over 50 children training, learning self defense, building character and developing a positive can-do attitude.
Elite Martial Arts is a rapidly growing organisation and in the UK we now have more than 12 adult clubs with over 300 members (training in the Seishin Mizu Ryu style).
Lionhearts clubs are currently open in Exeter, taught by Dr Richard Catterick and Dr Helen Catterick Sensei, and Leicester, taught by Mr Gary Tuck, Sensei.
Gary Tuck teaches the Leicester Lionhearts. He is a brown belt in SMRTJ.
I began martial arts training in the art of Jiu Jitsu in 2002 whilst living in Loughborough, when I joined one of the first clubs set up by Dr Richard Catterick, the school founder.
Through the excellent teaching of Dr Catterick, his wife Dr Helen Catterick Sensei and Mrs Natalie Davies Sensei and followed by Mr Kamran Ali Sensei, I completed my instructor qualifications and became one of the instructors at the Leicester Adult club in 2006. Taking over from Mr John Dowson Sensei in September 2006.
The sports development team who provide a base of excellence for Leicester Lionhearts Club consist of Sarah Tuck Sensei, who is the senior blue belt at the adult Jiu Jitsu School and an experienced secondary and high school teacher. John Dowson Sensei who is also an experienced Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Trudy Dowson who is a Head of physical education for the local monitors teaching and provides and feedback on teaching techniques.
Other achievements
I have entered many national martial arts competitions winning numerous gold, silver and bronze medals over the last four years. Most recently winning the light weight all range sparring and placing in the, ground fighting and randori tournaments during the November 2006 national championships.
Other Qualifications and Certification
Qualified to coach at Sport England Level 2. Appointed Person First Aid Certificate (October 2006) Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Clearance (December 2006)
Professional Affiliation
Member of NEST (National Education System for Training) Member of British Jiu Jitsu Association (National Governing Body) Member of Sports Coach UK
