Pocklington Karate Centre was founded in 1974 by sensei Frank Willison (currently a 5th Dan) and sensei Joan Willison (currently a 4th Dan), who had previously been training in York and Leeds. The style is Shotokan based.
Pocklington Karate Centre has been training in venues all around Pocklington over the last 30 years, and have produced some of the best students in their association, including the 1990 FEKO national champion in the male Kata category, Sensei Frank Willison. Both Sensei Frank and Sensei Joan have competed successfully, within the club and association, regionally, nationally and internationally, showing the standard of the club. Many of the students have also competed successfully in various competitions.
Now their son Sensei Oliver Willison (currently a 2nd Dan) is helping with the instructing in the club, teaching youths from the age of 8, to adults of any age and ability. Sensei Oliver is also starting to compete on the competition circuit.
